Yeshiva Darchei Torah of Far Rockaway recently held a melaveh malkah in Yerushalayim which was attended by an estimated 150 alumni. The attendees ranged from recently landed bachurim learning in the great yeshivos of Yerushalayim to married kollel fellows, some with talmidim of their own.
The event was organized in conjunction with the five-day visit to Eretz Yisrael by Rav Yaakov Bender, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Darchei Torah. Rav Bender, who works to maintain a strong connection with all of his current and former talmidim, was in Eretz Yisrael for several days. A large portion of his time was spent meeting individually with alumni, including a group of married alumni who learn every evening together in Yerushalayim at the Darchei Torah alumni night kollel.
At the melaveh malkah, held in a simcha hall not far from the Old City, Rav Bender delivered words of inspiration to those gathered and then spoke individually to scores of alumni, remaining well past midnight.
When the event was over, the alumni returned to their yeshivos and homes, invigorated by the reinforcement of their connection with their yeshiva, their rebbeim, and their fellow alumni. Thanks to the ongoing efforts on their behalf by their rebbeim and the yeshiva’s alumni association, that connection is surely one that will only grow stronger with time. v
