Arrest made in Lakewood Hit-and-Run Of Chaverim Member

LAKEWOOD — An arrest has been made Sunday in connection to a hit-and-run crash that left a Chaverim volunteer seriously injured, according to police.

Moshe Guttman, who volunteers with  Chaveirim, was helping a person change a tire more than a week ago when he was struck by a van, according to police. The van was later identified by debris at the scene as a 1993 Chevy Astro Van.

Guttman, 25, is described as a husband and father of a newborn. He suffered a skull fracture and severe hip injury in the crash, police said.

Last week, the local Policemen’s Benevolent Association and Chaveirim, a group of volunteers that assists people in Lakewood with car and household emergencies, offered a $5,000 reward for help finding the driver of the Astro van.

Details of the arrest are expected to be released later Sunday evening.
