Jos, Nigeria (CNN) — Seven people from multiple countries have been kidnapped in Nigeria, police said Sunday.

They were taken Saturday night from the offices of construction company Setraco in Jama’are, in Bauchi State, part of northern Nigeria, police said.

Some people said they heard gunshots, but there were no immediate reports from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, authorities said.

Among those kidnapped were an Italian citizen, a Greek citizen, and two Lebanese citizens, according to those governments.

Nigerian police said a Briton was among those kidnapped as well. British authorities said they were “aware of reports,” and were making inquiries.

Nigeria has been facing a rash of kidnappings blamed on criminal groups or the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Violence has been spreading across Muslim-dominated northern Nigeria.
