A Rising Couture

The MIRI label is a couture collection with inspiring beauty that reflects the newest styles and has been recognized far and wide, particularly for its exquisite wedding gowns. The MIRI bridal line has rapidly grown over the last few years, helping kallahs throughout the U.S., Europe, and Israel find their dream dresses, adding to the success of their already well-established evening gown and ready-to-wear lines. Each bridal gown is constructed of the finest organzas, tulles, and chiffons, with detailed hand beading. All of MIRI’s beautifully crafted designs fuse high fashion with an eclectic aesthetic.

Made with the finest fabrics and beadings from Europe, MIRI evening gowns all have Miri’s special personal touch. Miri’s dedication to producing beautiful, original, and perfect creations can be seen in all of her styles. Careful attention is given to every customer by her experienced sales associates, who have been trained personally by Miri to cater to each customer’s individual needs. MIRI customers are all treated like royalty. The MIRI mantra is, “We make your simcha, our simcha.”

The ready-to-wear line provides off-the-rack looks for young brides and their mothers, party dresses, and chic suits. This line embodies the modern woman who loves couture; it truly brings the runway looks and trends into everyday shopping. “I know what makes a woman feel good,” she says. “She wants to make a statement when she walks into a room.” Miri understands the needs of the religious, having grown up in the ultra-Orthodox community, but she also understands a woman’s love of fashion and couture. “There’s no reason why we can’t have the best of both worlds.” Each of the MIRI stores embodies the elegance of Parisian boutiques, which are the epitome of customer care and personalized service.

New at MIRI is the sportswear line, featuring dresses, skirts, sweaters, and blouses. The MIRI 2.0 line is affordable, while still retaining that special touch in every design. With the help of an exceptional staff that cares about each customer’s satisfaction, everyone is sure to find something that fits their taste and budget.

Miri’s dedication and unique talent have been evident since her early days of designing and producing exclusive and exceptional garments. “At 2, I would cut paper and try to make a pattern,” she says. “And I loved dressing up.” She grew up in Brooklyn, where “We were big Loehman’s shoppers, and Saks on sale . . . But I also went to dressmakers. My mother was from Belgium so I went to Europe a lot, especially Paris. I loved Chanel. I loved Valentino.” At 17, she apprenticed in Europe with a small couturier “whose gowns started at $10,000.”

All she wanted to do was design clothes. “But I am from an Orthodox family,” she said. “A woman does not start her own business if she’s not married. So I taught third-graders in a day care center. After math and science, I would teach them how to make dresses. We’d spend two hours on design.”

She designed her own wedding gown “and my mother’s and my sisters’.” She would often be asked by her friends and family to design their wedding gowns. Then someone in the business saw one and asked, “Whose label is that?” When told it was Miri, she phoned her and said, “I’d like to see your line.”

“I couldn’t believe it,” Miri recalls. Never did she imagine that her dream would soon be a reality. All she wanted to do was to design affordable and elegant clothing, with a serious sense of style and design.

And so it began. Miri hired a few seamstresses and began selling her dresses. She spent 10 years in a showroom on Seventh Avenue catering to the fashion elite. “I dressed princesses, politicians’ wives, and beauty pageant contestants,” she said. Now Miri has branched out into retail. Each MIRI store showcases the evening, ready-to-wear, and bridal collections each season, as well as the MIRI 2.0 sportswear line.

The rest is history. In addition to her stores in Brooklyn, Cedarhurst, Lakewood, Ramat Gan, Jerusalem, and London, Miri recently opened a new bridal salon in Cedarhurst, and welcomes all brides to schedule an appointment now and receive a free gift.

MIRI Bridal is located at 79A Columbia Avenue in Cedarhurst. By appointment only. Call 516-206-1004. Free gift when booking an appointment, while supplies last. v
