For the first time in two years, the three day event called Air Force Week is returning to the Big Apple. Dozens of activities will take place throughout the city to highlight the military branch.
“We want to give the average New Yorker a chance to have a conversation with their airmen, to talk to them about the challenges that they have as an Air Force representative being deployed, far away from their home station, and being away from their family,” Lieutenant Colonel Angela Billings explained.
She said it’s taken about a year to secure the necessary permits, and coordinate the approximately 30 events with various city agencies and the Federal Aviation Administration, in the case of the Thunderbirds.
The high flying aerial group will perform at upcoming Mets and Yankees games during the three day Air Force showcase. Additionally, there will be demonstrations with military personnel at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, and Pier 86 on the Hudson River.
“It’s also a chance for us in turn to say thanks to the community that really does support us,” Lt Col. Billings added.
Other events include drill team performances and concerts by the Air Force band.
