Week of 8/17: Burglary in FR. The Young Israel of Far Rockaway was burglarized and several religious items were stolen. The crime was realized a week later as congregants came back to pray. Although there is no video footage available, a police report was filed and the matter remains under investigation with the NYPD.
Tuesday, 8/19: Robbery in FR. Around 7:30 p.m., the NYPD responded to a dispute which turned out to be a robbery in progress. Patrolling RCSP volunteers spotted the suspected perpetrator a short while later on Beach 13th and Seagirt, and immediately notified the NYPD of the suspect’s whereabouts. Once positively identified, the NYPD proceeded to make an arrest.
Tuesday, 8/19: Car break-ins in FR. Shortly after 10:00 p.m., the RCSP 24-hour hotline received a call regarding car break-ins in the vicinity of Hicksville, Lannett, and Beach 6th. Responding RCSP volunteers found numerous items scattered around the area and taken from the various vehicles broken into. Items were returned to the victims. Although no perpetrator was located, the RCSP video surveillance team is currently retrieving and reviewing video footage to hand over to the 101st Precinct detective squad.
Wednesday, 8/20: Bike theft in 5T. A bike etched by the RCSP was stolen on Doughty and Central. A police report was filed.
Monday, 8/25: Hit & run in FR. Around 7:00 p.m., a livery van crashed into a car at the intersection of Seagirt and Beach 20th. The driver of the livery van fled the scene on foot. The NYPD Emergency Service Unit extracted the injured driver from the other vehicle and the victim was transported by FDNY/EMS to a nearby hospital. RCSP volunteers were on hand to direct traffic and assist with crowd control. Should you have any information about this incident, please contact the NYPD and the RCSP 24-hour hotline immediately.
Tuesday, 8/26: Car break-ins in BW. Several cars were broken into overnight on Trist place off Bayswater Avenue. The RCSP video surveillance team is reviewing video footage to hand over to the 101st Precinct detective squad. Police reports were filed and the matter remains under investigation with the NYPD.
Friday, 8/29: Car break-ins in FR. Around 4:30 a.m., a resident on Oak Drive called the RCSP 24-hour hotline as he observed two men breaking into cars. RCSP patrol volunteers responded immediately and managed to keep up with the two perpetrators as they attempted to break into other vehicles in the area as the RCSP dispatcher activated the 911 system. The NYPD responded swiftly and proceeded to make two arrests.
E-ZPass phishing scam. The New York State Thruway Authority is warning E-ZPass customers that people have received bogus e-mails, made to appear official, stating that they have unpaid tolls. “Please be advised this is not an authorized communication from E-ZPass, the New York State Thruway Authority, or any other toll agency associated with E-ZPass,” the Thruway Authority said. “We advise you not to open or respond to such a message should you receive one.” The bogus e-mail includes a clickable link to download a supposed invoice. Do not click the link or respond to the e-mail. Anyone having questions about any correspondence can call the customer service center at 800-333-8655.
