The City of Amsterdam is commemorating Pieter Meerburg, a Righteous Gentile who saved 350 Jewish children during the Holocaust, by dedicating its last nameless bridge in his honor.

On September 2, Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and other dignitaries will officially name bridge 234 the Pieter Meerburg Bridge.

Meerburg, who was a student in Amsterdam in 1942 when the Nazis occupied the city, led a network known as the Amsterdam Student Group that hid Jewish children and smuggled them to safety.

Amsterdam is commemorating a Righteous Gentile who saved 350 Jewish children during WWII by dedicating a nameless bridge in his honor.

The Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial recognized Meerburg, who died in 2012, as Righteous Among the Nations in 1974.

Bridge 234 is located about 200 yards from the Portuguese Synagogue and the Jewish Historical Museum.
