Over 80 Cedarhurst merchants participated in the Midnight Madness event. Virtually every store and restaurant that participated was packed–many filled to capacity with shoppers waiting in line to get in. It is estimated that almost 10,000 shoppers were in Cedarhurst on Saturday night alone, starting around 7:00 p.m., with scores of people still shopping close to midnight. As an example, at 7:20 p.m. there was a long line of about 40—50 people outside of Jildor, waiting for them to open at 8:00 p.m.

Part of the magic of Midnight Madness was that it was not only a shopping event, but also a major social event. Shoppers came in droves to Cedarhurst from all over Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and beyond.

Storeowners reported exceedingly high sales, demonstrated by the huge crowd of shoppers standing in long lines to check out. The entire weekend event generated significant revenue for the Cedarhurst Village storeowners.

Judging by the tens of thousands of shoppers, combined with the significant revenue generated on Friday, Saturday night, and Sunday, it is probable that the Village of Cedarhurst had one of the most attended and successful Black Friday weekends of any village on Long Island.
