Judges for Shulamith HS Shark Tank

Shulamith High School students have been tinkering, coding, and creating in their engineering class all year. On Wednesday, May 24, students had the opportunity to pitch their innovative creations in SHS Shark Tank.

The Shark Tank program speaks to the heart of Shulamith High School’s mission. G‑d made each individual in His image and challenged each individual to leave their unique mark on this world. We are all born makers. We ideate, innovate, and dare to stretch our limits. When, not if, we fall, we stand up and rise again. As a student-centered school, programs like Shark Tank challenge the students to stretch out of their comfort zone, think quickly and critically, and strive for excellence and purpose.

The lineup of inventions included the Fingerprint ID attendance: a fingerprint machine that keeps track of attendance; Medicine Cabinet: a pressure sensor controlled pill box that alerts doctors and nurses when patients take their medications; SafeDrive: a phone case that prevents texting and driving; Fires Be Gone: an automatic heat-sensing home fire extinguisher; the Anatobot: a robot used to minimize the risk of invasive surgeries using virtual reality; You Chop: an automatic chopping knife catering to those who suffer from arthritis; and the Smart Light: an automatic light switch.

The students pitched their product ideas, along with their business plans, logos, and price points, to an audience of “sharks”–professionals in fields related to business and technology–as well as parents and fellow students. Questions from the “sharks” and the audience forced the students to think on their feet, and they handled the challenge with poise and professionalism.

Thank-you to the Sharks–Toby Moskovits, Yossi Sharf, Adam Jerozolim, and Moshe Oratz–for taking time out of their busy schedules to give the students the invaluable opportunity to learn from their real-world experience. Their wide range of expertise–from venture capital and product design, to real estate and development and mechanical engineering–challenged the students to think about their products from all angles. v
