Central High School sophomores had an amazing time at the fantastic gradewide Shabbaton two weeks ago. The fun kicked off on Friday morning with a media presentation and game to introduce the theme of the weekend, “The HeART of the Matter: The world is your canvas.” Students discussed art and music in the Torah and in contemporary Modern Orthodox life. The sophomores then ventured to Great Neck for lunch and pottery-painting at Muddworks.
Back at Central, students vied for a culinary title in a cholent cook-off. The school building came alive on Friday night with a beautiful Carlebach-style davening and Shabbos dinner. Ms. Denah Emerson spoke about her experiences as a religious female in a school for the arts. Following a session about Rav Kook’s understanding of what it means to be an artist, grade representatives Emily Berger and Evelyn Pollak led the sophomores in a fun game at an oneg.
Then came the cherry on top—a slumber party in the gym!
On Shabbos day, students davened at the Young Israel of Holliswood and enjoyed additional sessions about Torah and the arts, including a shiur by Ms. Miriam Borenstein. MotzaeiShabbos activities featured a mix of chesed and fun. The grade reps topped off the night with dancing, karaoke, and a pizza-and-ice-cream party.
