China: We Are Willing to Facilitate Peace Talks Between Israelis, PA

China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, said Friday at a regular briefing that China would be happy to facilitate a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas if they were willing to meet.

The two leaders have overlapping trips to China next week. Abbas will be in the country Sunday to Tuesday and Netanyahu is set to visit from Monday to Friday.

In an interview with Israel Hayom, Chinese Ambassador to Israel Gao Yanping said that the country would like to see a resumption of peace talks.

“We are hopeful that both the Israelis and the Palestinians will devote renewed efforts to restart peace talks soon. China will continue to play an active and supportive role in this context,” she said.
