OREGON (WABC) — Even first responders aren’t sure how an Oregon couple survived after a huge tree fell on the roof of their car.
Investigators say the husband and wife had just pulled up to their home at the end of a cul-de-sac when the 100-foot fir snapped off at its base, falling on the parked car while the two people were sitting inside it.
Based on the size of the tree and the amount of damage to the car, rescuers expected the worst.
Not only did both people survive, they only suffered minor injuries.
They were taken to a hospital as a precaution, but both husband and wife are expected to be fine.
“They must have had a bright light shining on them,” Fire Chief Troy Buzalsky said. “If you look at the passenger’s compartment, especially the driver’s compartment, there’s about a space the size of two loaves of bread in there, how the husband survived is just remarkable.”
Investigators don’t know why the tree fell. Neighbors didn’t report any strong wind gusts at the time.
