Multiple championship banners in hockey, basketball, softball, flag football, and bowling grace the walls of DRS’s gymnasium, and now, a new sport joins the ranks. This past weekend, Yeshiva University held its annual Henry Wittenberg Wrestling Tournament which welcomes high school competitors from across the country for first-rate competition. The event offers students an opportunity to gather for community and celebration—and for high school students who might be interested in YU to get a sense of the campus and community. For the first time ever, DRS celebrated championship victory at the tournament as senior David Haskell placed first in his weight class. David’s mother, commenting on the impact of the wrestling team on her son, said, “Wrestling has taught him how to be resilient and that with hard work and dedication you can achieve great accomplishments.” Aside from David’s big win, students Natan Davidowitz and Noach Levy placed fifth in their respective weight classes, and Judah Wagner placed sixth. Considering that the tournament hosted over 100 athletes, these accomplishments are quite impressive.
