Five Towns Welcomes Nachal Hareidi

The Guardian of Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers.  And neither do His faithful servants, the soldiers of Nahal Haredi – at least when they are on duty.

This week, the Five Towns welcomes Nahal Haredi CEO Rabbi Tzvi Klebanow, on a fund-raising visit to the Five Towns, and IDF Sergeant Nesanel Silverman, a graduate of one of the Yeshivos in the Five Towns Far Rockaway community.  Sgt. Silverman will speak this Shabbos at Congregation Aish Kodesh in Woodmere and at shalosh seudos at Young Israel of Lawrence Cedarhurst.  Motzei Shabbos there will be a special Melave Malka at 9:45 pm at the home of Anne and Shelly Golombeck, parents of a Nahal Haredi soldier, at 6 Washington Ave. S. in Lawrence, NY.

The Netzah Yehuda Battalion, also known as Nahal Haredi, is a battalion in the Kfir Brigade in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and was created to accommodate the needs of Bnei Torah serving in the IDF. More than 6,000 have gone through the program.

The battalion was founded in 1999, beginning with a mere 30 soldiers, and now is close to 1500 strong.

Below is a short video presentation narrated by Sgt. Silverman which depicts his experiences.  Sgt. Nesanel Silverman is the one with the sunglasses and the long Tzitis.  The video begins with Prime Minister Netanyahu lauding a Nachal Haredi mission in which Sgt. Silverman took part
