A large menorah decorated with an assortment of seashells, which is on display in Miami Beach, was vandalized Sunday night with the words “You Killed Jesus” scrawled on its base, Fox News reported Tuesday.
This specific menorah has a history of its own, being torn down three times throughout its first year in the public space. The anti-Semitic writing was added on the 11th anniversary of the first time it was vandalized.
Rabbi Zev Katz, of the Chabad House, who put up the menorah, said the vandalism would not weaken the scope of the Jewish community’s activity in the area.
“We’re not going to be discouraged, we’re going to keep on going,” Rabbi Katz said. “And when people try to stop us, we’re going say, ‘Not only are you not going to stop us, but we’re going to go over and, on top, and do more.”‘
According to the report, the damaged shells on the menorah have since been replaced and local police have launched an investigation in search of the culprit.
