Rav Chaim Kanievsky, shlita, son-in-law of Rav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv, shlita, has called on the tzibbur to accept a fast day on Thursday, 23 Shevat, February 16, on behalf of the poseik ha’dor.
Rav Kanievsky has stipulated, however, that this taanis is only for those capable of keeping it without negatively impacting their learning, for fasting at the expense of compromised Torah study will not accomplish its goal.
