The Yeshiva of Central Queens will hold its annual scholarship dinner on Sunday, March 4, at The Sands at Atlantic Beach. This year, the yeshiva will mark its 71st anniversary by paying tribute to five outstanding individuals who have served the yeshiva with much dedication and devotion. Dr. Joel and Mrs. Pearl Cohen: Guests of Honor. The Cohens have been involved with YCQ for over two decades. Dr. Cohen has served in a leadership role on the YCQ board of trustees for the past 11 years—first as president and currently as chairman of the board. Pearl served with distinction on the board of the parents association and, for the past eight years, as YCQ dinner co-chairperson. The growth and success of the yeshiva are, in a large part, due to the dedication of this wonderful, dynamic couple. Jeffrey and Robyn Socol: Parents of the Year. As a member of the yeshiva’s house committee, Jeffrey has dedicated himself to helping the yeshiva maintain its physical plant and is available around-the-clock to offer his expertise and service. Robyn is active in the parents’ association and is currently serving as a PA representative on the board of trustees. Mrs. Ellen Orlanski: Educator Award. She has demonstrated outstanding professionalism and warmth and has stimulated the creativity of all her students in her two decades of teaching. Under her mentorship of the Gruss-YCQ E2K science program, her students have won a number of science competitions. YCQ President Louis Tuchman noted, “Although we may have seen the beginning of an economic recovery during the past year, many YCQ families remain in dire financial situations. All funds from the dinner campaign will be allocated to the YCQ scholarship fund.” A scroll of honor listing the contributors will be published for the occasion. Mrs. Reize Sipzner, dinner chair, asked alumni, alumni parents, and friends to sponsor as many weeks of tuition as possible and make dinner reservations immediately so “we can all enjoy a special evening of friendship in the spirit of hachzakat haTorah.” For more information, please call 718-793-8500, ext. 300 or 302.
