Israel Rescues 70 U.S. Tourists Stranded in Desert Rainstorm

Israel police rescued some 70 U.S. tourists stranded in the Negev desert after an intense rain storm flooded the area, The Washington Times reported on Thursday, based on an Associated Press report.

Israeli rescue teams in helicopters were sent in to save the tourists, Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said on Thursday.

They were in a parking lot on Wednesday night as the heavy rainfall began. Overnight, waters rose so high that Israeli rescuers were forced to use helicopters and Jeeps to rescue them.

The severe weather is unusual for this time of year, the AP reported.
