A spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction on Wednesday for its praise of the deadly West Bank shooting attack the previous night in which Rabbi Raziel Shevach was slain.

At meetings with visiting Irish and Dutch Foreign Ministers Simon Coveney and Halbe Zijlstra on Wednesday, Netanyahu called on Abbas to condemn the “reprehensible” killing of Shevach and “stop financing murderers and their families.”

“Prime Minister Netanyahu said that herein lies the true root of the conflict — the refusal to recognize the State of Israel within any borders whatsoever along with the encouragement of the murder of Israelis,” his office said in a statement.

Jason Greenblatt — President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy — tweeted on Wednesday, “Palestinian terrorists murdered Rabbi Shevach, father of 6 young children. Hamas & Fatah glorify his murder. This violence & horrific glorification will only incite more attacks & rob Palestinians of the chance for peace. I pray for the Shevach family.”
