Insights into the Morning Prayers with Michal Horowitz. Why do we pray? What can our tefillot accomplish Above? What is the power behind the words we say every day? Explore and learn about a basic tenet of our faith: tefillah, talking to G‑d. This four-part series will add meaning, understanding, and depth to our daily prayers. Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. September 16: The importance of tefillah; October 28: Understanding the morning prayers, Part I; November 18: Understanding the morning prayers, Part II; and December 9: The power of Shema. $50 for all four classes or $15/class.
Cooking Workshops with Chef Extraordinaire Naomi Ross. Three Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.; $165 for the three classes or $60 per class. Registration is a must.
September 17. Challah 101. Homemade challah to round out your holiday table just in time for the New Year. All the whats, hows, and whys about making challah. Investigate the spiritual significance of our most important bread. Workshop highlights include a guide to challah- and general bread-making, step-by-step instruction for proofing, kneading, and braiding techniques, and Torah sources and ideas for understanding the mitzvah of hafrashat challah.
November 5. Vegan Cleanse. Feeling weighed down by weeks of holiday eating? Wrap up the “holiday season” with a vegan cleanse bound to restore lightness and vitality to your diet. Add new, healthy recipes to your repertoire. Workshop includes tips for well-balanced vegetarian and vegan eating and menu planning.
December 10. Chanukah Entertaining. Party fun and flair! Family memories, dreidel games, and the glow of the menorah are what great Chanukah parties are made of. Greasy, oily latkes? Not so much. Get ready to kick it up early with hip hors d’oeuvres, elegant appetizers, and sophisticated starters. Class will include serving tips and ideas.
Krav Maga with certified KAPAP instructor Brett Halem. Self-defense (for men only). Train with Israel’s original defensive tactics system, krav panim el panim. Gain confidence and learn survival skills with personal attention from instructor. Eight Tuesday evenings. September 16, 23, 30; October 7, 21, 28; November 4, 11, 8:00–9:00 p.m.; $144.
