The JCC of the Greater Five Towns plans on offering the following programs for the fall. Programs will take place at the central headquarters, 207 Grove Avenue in Cedarhurst, unless otherwise noted. For information, call 516-569-6733 or visit www.fivetownsjcc.org.

Adult Learning:

Our Matriarchs. Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. October 29, Rivka: What bothered her about her pregnancy?; December 3, Rachel And Leah: Two sisters, two wives, one husband. $15 per individual class. Led by renowned speaker Michal Horowitz. Learn fascinating facts and beautiful stories. Social Programs for Adults and Seniors:

Café Europa. Tuesdays, 12:30–2:30 p.m. At Congregation Beth Sholom, 390 Broadway, in Lawrence. A weekly gathering for older adults enhancing their past with a feel of European flavor. Enjoy meeting new people with a little nosh, exercise, Yiddish humor, lectures, movies, music, and more. For further information, please contact Rebecca Gordon, L.M.S.W. at ext. 209.

Cards and Friendship Group. Wednesdays, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Come alone or bring a friend for a fun afternoon at the JCC. Enjoy meeting new people, good conversation, and challenging games. For further information, please call Mary Sheffield at ext. 219.

Caregivers Support Group. Tuesday, November 5, 7:30 p.m. Usually meets the first Tuesday of the month. Enter through side door. This group is for people who are caring for an elderly loved one. You may find yourself trying to meet the demands of work, family, and caregiving, all at the same time, meeting everyone else’s needs but your own. Share your experiences with others. Chaverim Group. Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. The purpose of this group is to bring together Holocaust survivors in a heimish atmosphere. A kosher lunch and transportation are also available. For further information and to preregister, please contact Lisa Barnett, LCSW-R at ext. 210.

Come Alive Program. Mondays and Thursdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. At Congregation Sons of Israel, 111 Irving Place, in Woodmere. This program provides an opportunity for homebound older adults to participate in social, recreational, and intellectual activities. Kosher lunch; door-to-door transportation is available on a limited basis. For further information, please call Mary Sheffield at ext. 219. $40/session.

Emotional-Eating Support Group for Women. Mondays, 1:00–2:00 p.m. starting November 4. This program provides an opportunity to discover the roots of emotional eating, recognize and understand triggers, and develop positive alternatives to handling emotions. Golden Notes Choir. Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. A joyful hour of singing with choir master Zvi Klein. Sing songs in all languages and perform for local venues. For information please call Rachayle Deutsch at ext. 222 or Rachayle.deutsch@fivetownsjcc.org.

L’Chaim Club. Wednesdays, 12:00–2:00 p.m. Once a month. November 6 and December 11. At Valley Stream Jewish Center, 322 North Corona Avenue, in Valley Stream. This group offers a light kosher lunch, socialization, and an array of lectures, entertainment, and wonderful discussions. Parkinson’s Support Group. Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. The purpose of this group is to bring together Parkinsonians, spouses, and their caregivers. For further information, please contact Cathy Byrne at ext. 220.

Remember When. Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. At Congregation Sons of Israel. A weekly social day program for those with memory loss. This unique gathering provides social and intellectual activities through the use of art, music, and current events and other innovative cognitive therapies. A kosher lunch is provided and door-to-door transportation is available on a limited basis. $40/day. For more information and to preregister, please call Gayle Fremed at ext. 211.

Shalom Club. Mondays, 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. At Temple Hillel, 1000 Rosedale Road, in North Woodmere. A unique group of retired professionals with a zest for intellectual stimulation and Jewish enrichment. The club will focus on social, cultural, and educational experiences. A wide variety of speakers will ensure lively discussions. Programming includes exercise and lunch. For further information please contact Cathy Byrne, MS, RN.

Tish and Dish Group. Fridays, 10:00–11:30 a.m. This innovative program combines Friday mornings with a little taste of Shabbat. It includes music, singing, noshing, and schmoozing in a light, enjoyable environment.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Group. Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. At Temple Hillel in North Woodmere. The goal is to offer a safe haven where clients and family members feel accepted for who they are. For further information, please contact Lisa Barnett, LCSW-R at ext. 210.

Zumba Gold Class. Thursdays, 2:00–3:00 p.m. Free. Please wear flat-soled sneakers.

Beginners Ballet, ages 6 and up. Tuesdays, 5:00–6:00 p.m. 10 classes.

Beginners Hip-Hop, ages 6 and up. Thursdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m. 10 classes.

Chess Club, ages 6–8. Wednesdays 6:15–7:00 p.m., ages 9+ advanced chess. Wednesdays, 7:00–7:45 p.m. At Temple Israel, 140 Central Avenue, Lawrence. This class, instructed by a chess Senior Master, will teach the basic principles of chess and improve analytical skills while allowing students to compete and have fun.

Math, Brain Teasers, grades 6 and 7. Wednesdays, 5:30–6:30 p.m., Temple Israel of Lawrence, 140 Central Avenue, in Lawrence. 10 classes.

Math, grades 2 and 3. Wednesdays, 4:30–5:30 p.m., Temple Israel of Lawrence, 140 Central Avenue, in Lawrence. 10 classes. v
