JCC Of The Greater Five Towns Fall Schedule

Elderly Groups

Café Europa. Tuesdays, 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Sholom, 390 Broadway in Lawrence. A weekly gathering for older adults, with a feel of European flavor. Cards & Friendship Group. Wednesdays, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Come alone or bring a friend for a fun afternoon. Enjoy meeting new people, good conversation, and challenging games. For further information, please call Mary Sheffield at ext. 219.

Chaverim Group. Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. The purpose of this group is to bring together Holocaust survivors in a heimish atmosphere. A kosher lunch and transportation is also available. For further information and to pre-register, please contact Lisa Barnett, LCSW-R at ext. 210.

Come Alive Program. At Congregation Sons of Israel in Woodmere on Mondays and Thursdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. This program provides an opportunity for homebound older adults to participate in social, recreational, and intellectual activities. Golden Notes Choir. Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. A joyful hour of singing with choirmaster Zvi Klein. Singing songs in all languages and performing for local venues. For information please call Sheryl at ext. 222.

L’Chaim Club. Wednesdays, 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Valley Stream Jewish Center, 322 North Corona Avenue in Valley Stream. This group offers a light kosher lunch, socialization, and an array of lectures, entertainment, and wonderful discussions. Remember When. Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Congregation Sons of Israel, 111 Irving Place, Woodmere. A weekly social day program for those with memory loss. This unique gathering provides social and intellectual activities through the use of art, music, and current events and other innovative cognitive therapies. Shalom Club. Mondays, 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Temple Hillel, 1000 Rosedale Road, North Woodmere. A unique group of retired professionals with a zest for intellectual stimulation and Jewish enrichment. The club will focus on social, cultural, and educational experiences. Tisch & Dish. Fridays, 10:00–11:30 a.m. This innovative program combines Friday mornings with a little taste of Shabbat. It includes music, singing, noshing, and schmoozing in a light, enjoyable environment.

Health and Fitness

Russian Division

Chess Club. For all children ages 7+. Wednesdays, 3:45–4:45 p.m. and 6:30–7:30 p.m. at Temple Israel, 140 Central Avenue in Lawrence. This class, instructed by a chess senior master, will teach the basic principles of chess and improve analytical skills while allowing students to compete and have fun. Social Services

Caregivers Support Group. Meets the first Thursday of the month. Next meeting will be on Thursday, November 1, 7:00–8:30 p.m. at the JCC; side door. This group is for people who are caring for an elderly loved one and who may find themselves trying to meet the demands of work, family, and caregiving, all at the same time; meeting everyone else’s needs but their own.
