State Senator Todd Kaminsky stood up for yeshivas and private schools by proudly voting to allocate $5 million in state grants to reimburse schools for the salaries of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teachers.

“Yeshivas in our community play a vital role in educating our students and preparing them to become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Senator Kaminsky. “Attending a yeshiva should mean that a student gets both a strong religious and secular education. Investing in STEM teachers at yeshivas will allow those students to compete with ones at secular schools for 21st-century jobs.”

The legislation, part of the NYS 2017—18 budget, allocates $5 million in grants to reimburse yeshivas and other nonpublic schools for the salaries of STEM teachers in grades 3—8. Grants will be distributed through the Office of Religious and Independent Schools.
