Mel Brooks Sends Message to Long Island Voters. Entertainment legend Mel Brooks recorded an automated call to voters in support of Kaminsky’s campaign to replace Dean Skelos in the 9th District seat, which became automatically vacant upon Skelos’s December conviction on charges of bribery, extortion and conspiracy.

The following is a transcript of the call:

“Hello, this is Mel Brooks. Yes, it really is Mel Brooks.

“I’m calling you on behalf of my nephew; actually my great-nephew, Todd Kaminsky, who is running for state senator. Not only is Todd a great nephew, but also a great human being. I’m telling you if you vote for him, you’ll get a truly terrific public servant who will put his heart and soul into representing you.

“Todd is running in a special election on April 19. He is running for the State Senate seat of the 9th District on Long Island’s South Shore.

“Write that down. April 19 is a special election. You’re liable to forget,” he said. “Do me a favor. Do yourself a favor. Vote for Todd Kaminsky. Don’t forget.”

DiNapoli Backs Kaminsky in SD-9. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli endorsed Assemblyman and former federal prosecutor Todd Kaminsky. Comptroller DiNapoli said, “The State Senate needs reformers like Todd Kaminsky who know Long Island. Todd grew up on the South Shore and he’s fought for the issues Long Islanders care about, voting against 110 tax increases, protecting our schools and prosecuting corrupt officials of both parties when they break the law. I endorse Todd for State Senate because he is exactly the kind of leadership Long Islanders need.”

Kaminsky 2016 Raises Over $1M. Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky’s campaign has raised more than $1 million for his State Senate bid, giving him about $300,000 on hand for the final push in the April 19 Special Election. Kaminsky raised more than $419,000 in the previous 21 days (since the last filing report). “I continue to be grateful for the enormous support my campaign has received,” said Kaminsky. “Long Islanders are tired of corrupt leaders who are more concerned with their own interests than representing the taxpayers who elected them. This race is about delivering results for the South Shore families, schools, and communities. The voters are responding to our message because they know I helped lead the fight for a billion dollar tax cut, a nearly $20 million increase in aid to our schools, and because I am the only candidate with a real plan to tackle corruption in Albany.”

Kaminsky Releases New Ad. Assemblyman Kaminsky released a new ad, entitled “Our Fight,” in his campaign to replace former senator Dean Skelos. The ad, which will run on cable stations across the South Shore, features Kaminsky and local residents speaking about how he has helped their lives and delivered for South Shore communities.

The ad specifically references Kaminsky’s efforts during the recent state budget process to secure a $1 billion tax cut for middle-class families and nearly $20 million in additional funding for school districts in southwest Nassau County thanks to his work to eliminate the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).

The ad further features Kaminsky’s work as a former prosecutor in the federal government’s local public corruption unit, where he won big cases against corrupt Democrats and Republicans before his election to the State Assembly where he continued to fight against corruption, passing ethics reforms to hold Albany lawmakers accountable.

After releasing the ad, Kaminsky said: “I’m the only candidate in the race that has an actual record of rooting out corruption, securing record funding for South Shore school districts, and delivering tax relief for middle-class families and Sandy victims. I’m proud to share my campaign’s positive message of delivering real results for our taxpayers and communities. I grew up on the South Shore, live on the South Shore, and am raising my family on the South Shore and Long Island taxpayers will always be my top priority.”

In 2014, Kaminsky was elected to represent the South Shore in the State Assembly. During his first term, Todd fought for and won ethics reforms, tax breaks, aid for Sandy victims, and a new emergency center at South Nassau Communities Hospital. He also authored the most laws by a first-year Assembly member in recent New York State history.
