Lebanon President Suleiman Urges Lebanese to Stay Out of Syria Conflict

Lebanon President Michel Suleiman has urged Lebanese citizens to refrain from becoming involved in the raging Syrian civil war.

“It is important to stop interfering in the Syrian crisis, since Lebanon has no interest in doing so,” NOW Lebanon reported Suleiman as saying Wednesday, citing a report from the National News Agency.

“Lebanon should not be sacrificed on the altar of democracy for the sake of others,” the president said.

Suleiman’s remarks come a day after a bomb ripped through the Shiite terror group Hezbollah’s stronghold of Bir al-Abed in southern Beirut, leaving at least 50 people wounded.

The terror group at first denied involvement in the Syrian conflict, but in recent months has admitted to fighting alongside the troops of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, participating in the battle for the city of Qusair, before reports emerged that its forces had fanned out across the country.
