Drs. Lisa and Sheldon Feit: Guests of Honor. This dynamic and intelligent couple (pictured on the cover of this issue) has successfully managed demanding careers, devotion to family, and a commitment to community service. Both Lisa and Sheldon are members of the Beth Sholom board of trustees and Lisa serves as vice-chair. Lisa also chairs the Congregation Beth Sholom Shirley and Harold Bogdonoff Bikur Cholim Committee and is an active sisterhood member. Sheldon serves as a gabbai in the main minyan and has been honored by Beth Sholom as the Chasan Bereishis on Simchas Torah. The Feits’ involvement in community service is not limited to Beth Sholom. Sheldon has participated in Tomchei Shabbos and Lisa has been the recipient of the Rudy Rosen Humanitarian Award and has also been honored by Emunah of America. Lisa and Sheldon bring a sense of excellence and dignity to everything that they have accomplished. They are truly an inspiration to all. Helen Friedman, Barry Gurvitch, and Neil Osrof: Chacham Lev Awardees. Chacham lev is referenced in the Torah in the book of Sh’mos. The phrase is used to describe Bezalel and his workers as they build the Mishkan. To build and enhance a synagogue requires a combination of chochmah (intellect) and lev (heart). Helen, Barry, and Neil have combined these fine qualities in their lives and in their service to the shul. They are a diverse group, busy with family and careers, who came together to renovate the shul in a timely and tasteful manner. For their efforts, they deserve our admiration and gratitude. The gala buffet dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Sholom of Lawrence, 390 Broadway in Lawrence. The cost is $300 per person. For further details and to make reservations, contact the Congregation Beth Sholom Office at 516-569-3600 or visit www.bethsholomlawrence.org to register online.
