Man Barricades Himself in Brooklyn Apartment During Two Hour Standoff with Police

BAY RIDGE — A man who allegedly violated his parole barricaded himself inside his Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday, holding police at bay for two hours.

Early Tuesday, parole officers went to 8502 Fort Hamilton Parkway at 85th Street looking for the man, who allegedly refused to come out.

The officers called the NYPD and, at about 7 a.m., police shut down surrounding streets and sent in emergency service units to try and remove the man.

According to a neighbor who lives down the hall, who would identify himself only as Mariano, the man lived with a pregnant woman who may have been his wife or girlfriend. He was also sitting on his window ledge while police were on scene, Mariano said.

“It was like he was ready to jump,” said Mariano. “Police asked if I had ever heard anything from them. I said, ‘no, they’re regular people.'”

Officers were seen deploying an airbag at the rear of the building, and a woman at the scene appeared to be crying. She was being consoled by a group of men.

Police did not give any information as to how the man violated his parole, but one officer at the scene said that he had an open warrant and was “known to have firearms.”

The man turned himself in at around 9 a.m., police said. No weapons were found at the scene.
