MBR’s Fall Schedule

Machon Basya Rochel Seminary of Lawrence, in memory of Mrs. Rose Edelman, is once again giving the adult women of the community the chance to become “seminary students.” The fall semester is underway. Mrs. Vivienne Chaya Frank will speak on Wednesday mornings, 11:00–11:50 about Sefer Melachim. The course is text-based and each class will be self-contained. The message of the Navi is relevant to all generations including our own. Mrs. Frank thinks of it as a letter that’s addressed to us and postmarked today. The goal of this course is to study the personalities and events in Melachim with the guidance of the classical meforshim—Rashi, Metzudos, Radak, and the Midrashim—in order to uncover the lessons that are relevant to our lives as Jewish women of today. Each class is $10.

Following Mrs. Frank, 12:00-12:50 on Wednesdays, there will be a course on Birchas Hamazon with Rebbetzin Aviva Feiner. It will be a six-part series—November 6, 13, and 20, and December 11, 18, and 25. This class will increase one’s understanding of this essential tefillah and deepen the appreciation for all we have. The fee for the course is $60 and an individual class is $12.

Monthly Tiferes events will continue. Tiferes, a division of the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation, is a program for women’s inspiration. Monthly DVDs on topics of interest are shown. The next Tiferes event is scheduled for Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29, at 8:30 p.m. Two viewing times are given for the women’s convenience. This month’s DVD is titled “A Role Only You Can Play.” The speakers are Rabbi Tuvia Leiff and Rebbetzin Esther Reissman. The Tiferes program is sponsored by Henya Storch in honor of her mother, Mrs. Florence Penkin of Woodmere. The Tiferes program is free of charge. Donations are welcome.
