Mesivta Yesodei Yeshurun’s general studies department, under the guidance of the principal, Mr. Norman Fisher, completed its third year of offering U.S. Dept. of Labor skills-based training that goes beyond the traditional four-year high-school Regents curriculum. The curriculum, designed by Dr. Charles Snow, dean of general studies, and taught by Mr. Ron Ansel, formerly of J.P. Morgan Chase and currently director of career services at Touro College, included the salient points of effective public speaking and required students to make numerous presentations.

The public speaking program, culminating with a four-minute presentation before the school’s administration, was conducted biweekly as one of many electives offered, for voluntary participation, at the conclusion of the regular school day. This course and the other electives in the program were well received by the students and will be expanded in the 2013–14 academic year. v
