Washington, D.C. – The most comprehensive resource on how America responded to news of the Holocaust is now available, and it’s free to the public.
The online Encyclopedia of America’s Response to the Holocaust is being launched by The David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, in conjunction with this week’s commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day (Yom HaShoah).
The unique online encyclopedia features hundreds of entries on individuals, events, and topics, compiled and edited by the leading scholars in the field of Allied responses to the Holocaust. Prof. David S. Wyman is editor in chief of the encyclopedia; the co-editors are Prof. Judy Baumel-Schwartz, Prof. Laurel Leff, Dr. Rafael Medoff, Prof. Stephen Norwood, Prof. Monty Penkower, and Prof. Bat-Ami Zucker.
“Now for the first time, anyone interested in any aspect of America’s response to the Holocaust can find authoritative information on one website, with one click,” said Wyman Institute director Rafael Medoff. “Whether you are a student, a journalist, or just someone who’s curious about a particular topic, it’s all here for you–and it’s written by the top scholars in the field.”
“Unlike traditional encyclopedias,” Dr. Medoff pointed out, “the Encyclopedia of America’s Response to the Holocaust is dynamic, with entries constantly being added or updated to reflect the latest research in the field.”
The encyclopedia can be accessed at: http://enc.wymaninstitute.org and features a traditional alphabetical index as well as suggested entry points by topic and full text search capability.
