The grandchildren are home from camp, and they all had a great time. Of course, now they have to be entertained, so some families chose this week to head out for a brief end-of-summer vacation. It is always hard to believe that summer is ending. Back in June, when things were just starting to warm up and the kids started their vacations, summer seemed like a long stretch of time. But as we always say, time flies and the weeks just go right by.

Soon the kids will be starting school again. We have some new first-graders and another starting pre-1A. They are very excited. Another is a senior at Shevach looking into seminaries for next year. And another is in eighth grade, applying to high school. In Israel, one grandson started high school and another started cheder. Our oldest grandson is in Yerushalayim, learning, and we can’t wait to see him when we go for our yearly post-Rosh Hashanah trip for my father-in-law’s yahrzeit.

The Iran vote is coming up in Congress right around Rosh Hashanah, up to sixty days from July 20, and even though more senators have said that they will vote against the agreement, we still don’t know if there will be enough Democrats voting against it to override Obama’s veto.

There was speculation that Harry Reid would be influenced by Sheldon Adelson and that Kirsten Gillibrand would have gone along with Chuck Schumer. They are a disappointment.

Another Stop the Iran Deal rally is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in front of the offices of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand at 780 Third Avenue (at 49th St.) in Manhattan.

Even if the deal cannot be stopped, I’m sure Israel is preparing itself for the aftermath of the vote and subsequent ramifications. How timely that this is all taking place in Elul, as we are praying for a good, sweet, safe New Year.
