Former NBA star Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins gave a clinic and signed autographs for the campers at Avnet Country Day School on August 7 to a rousing reception by both campers and staffers. One of the first players to go straight to the NBA from high school, Darryl started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1975 and was traded to the Nets in 1982. He played 14 years in the NBA and averaged double figures in 9 of those years. After going through some fundamentals with the kids, Darryl showed them typical NBA drills and exercises and gave words of encouragement to all the campers to never give up on trying to fulfill their athletic and scholastic dreams.
