NYC Cop Shot in Queens

A police officer was shot in Jamaica, Queens Wednesday night when a man opened fire on an unmarked police van, authorities say,

According to a source, a plainclothes gang-suppression unit was patrolling the area in an unmarked van at about 10:35 p.m. when it passed a group of men near 106-61 Union Hall St. Someone in the group opened fire on the van, striking an officer in the leg.

The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly were expected to visit him.

Police are continuing to searching for the shooter. There was heavy police activity by South Jamaica Houses Wednesday night.
