ORT Alumnus Victim of Terror Attack in Paris

Our deepest condolences go to all those grieving for loved ones in Paris, but it is with particular pain that we learn that one of the four victims killed at the kosher market in eastern Paris last Friday was an ORT alumnus, Yohan Cohen z”l, 22, who had studied at the Lycée ORT high school in the Paris suburb of Villiers-le-Bel. Some reports say that Yohan was shot when he tried to disarm the terrorist. May his memory be for a blessing. Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 4.05.30 PM

Mr.  Cohen lived in Sarcelles in the northern suburbs of Paris known for its Jewish population and had been working at Hyper Cacher for a year to pay for his future wedding to girlfriend Sharon Seb. He was the grandson of a famous Jewish-Tunisian singer who died in December. The deputy mayor of Sarcelles, François Pupponi,  said that Mr. Cohen’s family was devastated. “He was a nice boy.” This is a tragedy that affects all of the city and the Jewish community.”
