The Rabbinical Council of America, the largest umbrella association of Orthodox Jewish rabbis in North America, reacts in horror to the ongoing reign of terror against Christian and Yezidi minorities in Iraq by ISIS. Rabbi Leonard Matanky, president of the RCA, said, “We are overwhelmed by the reports of beheadings, crucifixions, forced conversions, expulsions, and confiscations of property of innocent people who lived peaceably with their neighbors for centuries- – all in the name of God. As Jews, we have experienced this all too often in the past, and dare not remain silent.”
Rabbi Mark Dratch, the RCA’s executive vice president, added, “We urge the international community to take immediate and significant actions to save the lives and protect the integrity of hundreds of thousands of human beings who are targeted.”
The Rabbinical Council of America, with national headquarters in New York City, is a professional organization serving more than 1000 Orthodox rabbis in the United States of America, Canada, Israel, and around the world. Membership is comprised of duly ordained Orthodox rabbis who serve in positions of the congregational rabbinate, Jewish education, chaplaincies, and other allied fields of Jewish communal work.
