Police Shoot Man Near LaGuardia Airport

QUEENS — A 20-year-old man was shot by police on the Grand Central Parkway near LaGuardia Airport Thursday morning, according to a published report.

It closed down part of the road, causing major delays for people trying to catch flights.

The man was shot in the abdomen about 5:15 a.m. and was likely to survive, an FDNY spokesman. An EMS crew rushed him to New York Hospital Queens.

The New York Daily News reported that an NYPD officer fired the shot.

It is unclear what sparked the gunfire.

Traffic had been blocked off on the eastbound side of the highway. Two eastbound lanes were reopened shortly after 6 a.m.,  but another two remained closed as of 7:40 a.m., the New York City Office of Emergency Management said.
