Community leader Mrs. Rachel E. Frier, a distinguished attorney and activist, won a highly contested democratic primary on September 13. This is the first time an Orthodox Jewish woman with a Chassidic background was elected on a democratic primary for a civil court judge.

Mrs. Frier ran without any political support and against the political machine. She had an overwhelming outpouring of support from the entire district. There was a mutual feeling by all of the people who voted for her that she will be an outstanding asset for the court system as well as for all the people who will come before her.

Rabbi Shlomo Braun commented at the inception of her campaign that Mrs. Frier had the proper judicial temperaments for being a judge, including patience, fairness, compassion, courtesy, tact, courage, punctuality, and firmness. Her background also encompasses understanding, humility, common sense, and good moral judgment of right and wrong.

There was a festive, joyous atmosphere with family, friends, and many colleagues from the legal field at her victory celebration.

The second uproar was that Mr. David Schwartz, a 22-year-old former yeshiva student, was elected as the 48th Assembly District State Committee Man. This is not only history in Boro Park; it is a first of its kind in the entire United States! It is a great honor and a milestone that a man of such a young age excelled in his career and was able to attract 3,353 votes while the people who voted in opposition had 107 votes.

David, in the short time that he has been involved in politics, has already proven to be a dedicated and sincere public servant. All who got to know him are looking forward to his leadership and his success in his political and communal activities. Rabbi Shlomo Braun joined his victory celebration that took place in the Ohr Hachayim Ballroom where countless friends, community leaders, as well as elected officials participated in this historic victory.
