Lebanese lawmakers accused Hezbollah of using Beirut’s political paralysis to benefit Iran, the Lebanese daily An-Nahar reported on Wednesday.
The pro-Western Future Movement party released a statement saying Hezbollah is “exploiting the [Lebanese] presidential vacuum in service of Iran’s regional agenda.” It accused the organization of usurping parliamentary prerogatives, forcing the country either to elect its own preferred candidate, General Michel Aoun, or remain without a president.
The statement stressed, however, that Lebanon’s “pluralistic and democratic” nature would cause Hezbollah’s totalitarian control over the state to inevitably fail.
