“Dishonorable”

In the aftermath of the passage of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 on Friday, December 23rd which declares that Jerusalem (the eternal capital of the sovereign state of Israel) as well as Judea and Samaria are now deemed “illegally occupied” by the Jewish State, the Rabbinical Alliance of America (Igud HaRabbonim) held an emergency press conference on Thursday evening, December 29th to address the consequences that Israel now faces.

Gathering at Congregation Etz Chaim in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, NY on the sixth night of Chanukah, the Rabbinical Alliance of America passed a unanimous resolution calling on Israel not to give back any liberated territory.

The resolution states that:

“No part of Israel should be ceded to the enemy, it can only endanger life and serve to compromise Israel’s security.”

Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, the Executive Vice President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America and the RAA Presidium declared –to the assemblage of prominent rabbinical figures as well as the cadre of reporters present — that the resolution ” attempts to deprive the Jewish claim to the Holy Land.” He reminded the audience that the Lubavitcher Rebbe held that Eretz Yisroel is not just a piece of real estate. “We don’t take it apart or amputate it or give it away.  Furthermore any relinquishing of land is prohibited for it compromises the safety and security of its inhabitants. “

Rabbi Yehoshua S. Hecht of Norwalk, Connecticut, Chairman of the RAA presidium, pointed out the blatant hypocrisy of the United Nations. “UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has called for the UN to act as one person and as one body, “ Rabbi Hecht said.

“Instead of adhering to their stated objective of working together for world peace, they have come to inject a terrible organism into the body politic of the world. He also excoriated the Administration and the State Department for directing US Ambassador Samantha Powers to abstain from the critical vote, thus allowing it to pass. Her silence in the face of this prejudiced resolution is a brazen injustice. An injustice not only to Israel but a stain of shame upon these blessed United States of America and its citizens.”

Quoting from the Rambam (Rabbi Moses Maimonides) Rabbi Hecht said,  “When nations come to wage war against Israel, or to impose a tax or take away land and to make a decree upon them, the trumpets are sounded and fasting and prayers are recited until Heaven’s mercy is attained.”

“As Rabbis we hereby state that we support the right of the Jewish people to live in any part of Eretz Yisroel – be it Jerusalem, Hebron, Judea, Samaria.”

Taking questions from reporters, members of the RAA presidium noted that they are planning to send a delegation of the RAA to Washington, D.C. where they will be lobbying members of Congress in efforts to defund the United Nations until justice for the Jewish nation is served.
