The Five Towns community will have the great zechus to host Rav Asher Weiss next Shabbos, Parashas Vayakheil. Rav Weiss is well known throughout the world for his popular Minchat Asher series on Chumash, his sefarim on Shas, and most recently his Shailot Utshuvot Minchat Asher. Rav Weiss has written extensively on areas of Choshen Mishpat and medical halacha, much that will appear in his forthcoming volumes.
Rav Weiss serves as the rav of a shul in Ramot, a rosh yeshiva, rosh kollel, as well as an Av Beis Din. Since the passing of the Tzitz Eliezer, Rav Waldenberg, z’l, Rav Weiss was appointed as the official posek of Shaare Zedek Hospital in Yerushalayim. Many rabbanim from both our community and throughout the world consult Rav Weiss on the most complex halachic matters.
Rav Weiss will be spending Shabbos at the Young Israel of Woodmere. On Friday night, Rav Weiss will speak at a tisch in the shul beginning at 8:15. On Shabbos day, Rav Weiss will deliver a derashah after Mussaf, as well as a shiur on “Modern Technology on Shabbos: LED Lights and Beyond,” after the 5:15 Minchah.
There will be two fundraising events on behalf of Rav Weiss’s mosdos. One fundraising shiur and open Q&A will be held on Motzaei Shabbos in Lawrence at Machon Basya Rochel Seminary on “Matanos Le’evyonim: Getting the Most for Our Money When Giving Tzedakah.” On Sunday morning, a fundraising breakfast will be held at the Weichhotlz home, 839 Fiske Street in Woodmere. The breakfast will begin at 9:15 a.m., with introductory remarks by Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz, followed by a shiur by Rav Weiss on inyaney Purim. v
