Read Across America Comes To HALB

1We can read sitting. We can read standing. We can read fast. We can read slowly. We can read on Monday morning for Read Across America and Rosh Chodesh Adar Sheini. In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, the kindergarten children at HALB’s Early Childhood Center joined children throughout the United States in a celebration and salute to reading, as they read books to the children in the three- and four-year-old nurseries. The proud readers chose books from their “just right”-level book bins, and with modeling and help from their teachers, practiced and prepared how they would read and share their selections with their younger brothers, sisters, or friends. Spread across the SKA gym, the younger children cuddled and snuggled with their special toy, as they listened to their kindergarten buddies reading and pointing to the illustrations. Special guest readers including therapists, the nurse, ECC directors, and secretaries. Learning center personnel visited one of the classes to read and share their favorite Dr. Seuss book with the children. All of the preschoolers and their teachers came to school dressed in pajamas to enhance the special warm feeling of the day, and add a touch of “v’nahafoch hu” to this unique reading experience. What a great way to promote literacy! v
