Rosie Pope Comes To Cedarhurst

z8This past Monday, Cedarhurst was abuzz that a celebrity was in town, as Rosie Pope, star of Bravo’s Pregnant in Heels, made a guest appearance at {9} New York on Central Avenue.

{9} New York is a recently opened maternity and baby layette store. White and sleek, it is reminiscent of a Manhattan shop. With colorful clothing that is mainly imported from Europe, the store is both fashion-forward and price-conscious.

The brainchild of two Five Towns residents, Lucy Rosenthal and Margo Seewald, fills a need they felt was missing in the marketplace. “Maternity stores tend to not follow the current trends,” said Rosenthal. “We wanted to open up a fabulous chic boutique that just happened to carry maternity clothes and that would be open to all women in the community.” Indeed, {9} New York carries nonmaternity lines as well “but everything would work if you are pregnant and would accommodate a growing belly,” said Seewald.

Their mission statement is to “celebrate women’s pregnancies whilst allowing them to retain their sense of style and self.” The clothing is made from the finest cottons, stretch jersey, and swaths of printed silk; it all has a luxurious feel to it but at a price point that is sure to please all wallets.

They have also become known for their fabulous range of accessories such as jewelry, scarves, and bags. The entire collection has been curated for the store with an eye for the extraordinary. Consequently, their customers have run the gamut from teenage girls to women of a mature age.

“We carry all the brands that have been seen on recently pregnant celebrities,” said Rosenthal. “We really try to stay current with what’s happening and translate that into helping women dress fashionably and flattering to their figure.”

{9} New York also wants their boutique to be a central point for the community. They recently held an “Ask the Doula” class with renowned childbirth educator Alison Ziskind, as well as a refresher course in Lamaze for couples having a second or third baby. They hope to hold more classes throughout the summer and fall, such as breastfeeding support and a certified training course in baby CPR.

Amongst the designers that {9} New York carries is the Rosie Pope maternity clothing line. She was thrilled to make a visit to the store and meet her fans. Rosie is a maternity concierge to first-time well-to-do-mothers and has a couture/lifestyle brand in New York City. She has written a book—a complete guide to pregnancy called Mommy IQ—and was in the store to autograph her books as well as to happily chat with fans. {9} New York estimated that approximately 100 people came into the store and while they were waiting for their turn to meet Rosie, enjoyed refreshments by Dvida smoothies and Artisan Crunch organic cookies. Both companies use only the freshest organic ingredients, and customers indulged and tried several of the flavors, which were all deemed “delicious.”

The excitement was palpable in the store as people waited to meet Rosie Pope. “I can’t believe she’s really here,” said one excited fan. “This store is so cool and has just taken Cedarhurst to a whole other level,” said another. “I walk past the window every weekend to see what they have put in that week,” gushed another customer.

Well, it seems that if you are pregnant in heels or pregnant in flats, {9} New York is the place to shop for all your fashion and baby needs. v
