On Saturday evening, March 5, the Yeshivat Hesder of Sderot will iy’H host a fundraising event at Life Fitness, 235 Mill Street in Lawrence. The evening will feature a spinning class with Yoni Nierenberg—a spinning expert, Five Towns resident, and dear friend of Sderot. The evening will also include a Q&A with Five Towns resident Iliana Lichter, a registered dietitian/nutritionist. In addition, there will be a Pilates class for women as well as a basketball competition for men (hot shot, foul shooting, knockout) with trophies awarded to the winners. Attendees will enjoy “A Taste of Sderot” gourmet buffet of healthy and nutritional foods, including juices from JUS by Julie and much more. Come down for an enjoyable evening of health, nutrition, and fun, while at the same time supporting the Yeshivat Hesder in Sderot.
The city and community of Sderot have experienced a rebirth since the most recent war, and the students of the yeshiva are vital components of the Sderot community. Yeshivat Hesder in Sderot is the largest hesder yeshiva in Israel, with over 500 students. The yeshiva is housed in a beautiful (and reinforced against rocket attacks) beitmidrash, which also served as the home base for the Gefen Special Forces Battalion, hosting 600 soldiers who dormed with the yeshiva students on the campus during Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014.
