There is evidence that students at dozens of Palestinian Authority (PA) schools named for terrorists and Nazi collaborators “aspire to emulate” those who have committed violence against Jews, a Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) report published on Thursday revealed.

With at least 28 schools named after 15 difference terrorists and three honoring Nazi collaborators, Itamar Marcus – founder and director of the organization that monitors incitement in PA media – wrote in the report that the PA is “telling its children most emphatically that terrorists who have murdered Israeli civilians are role models and heroes.”

“PMW has found evidence that in practice, students who attend such schools refer to terrorists as personal heroes whom they look up to,” Marcus wrote.

In one example, a girl attending a school named for Shadia Abu Ghazaleh – a bombmaker who was killed when one of her devices accidentally detonated during preparations – told an official PA television host that Abu Ghazaleh was a “wonderful female Palestinian fighter. We follow her path in this school.”

The student’s schoolmates echoed that sentiment, with one calling Abu Ghazaleh a “model of the patriotic woman,” another expressing joy that “our school is named after a very well-known Martyr, who played a role and who did something great” and yet another explicitly saying, “[t]he school is named after her to commemorate her…and encourage people to be like her.”

The PA Ministry of Education is “directly and solely responsible for the naming of schools,” according to the report, and has decided to recognize such figures as Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin, Al-Qaeda co-founder Abdullah Azzam and the grand mufti of Jerusalem before 1948, Nazi-collaborator Haj Amin al-Husseini.

Three schools are named after Dalal Mughrabi, leader of the 1978 Coastal Road massacre, the most deadly attack in Israel’s history, in which Mughrabi led 13 other Fatah terrorists in hijacking a bus and killing 37 civilians. Over 70 others were wounded.

Four schools are named for Salah Khalaf, head of the Black September Organization responsible for plotting the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre of 11 Israeli athletes.

The PMW report also noted that eight schools are named after the so-called “Mother of Martyrs,” Al-Khansa, who, according to a PA-published eighth-grade textbook, “urged” her four sons to fight in battle and rejoiced when she learned that they had all been killed, saying, “Praise be to Allah who has honored me by their Martyrdom.”

Given this evidence, Marcus concluded that PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ insistence at a White House press conference earlier this month with President Donald Trump that “we are raising our children and our grandchildren on a culture of peace” was “meaningless.”

Also this week, PMW released a video compilation featuring Palestinian children reciting a poem glorifying violence against Zionists:
