JNS.org — A Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab an Israeli soldier near the Jewish community of Tekoa in Gush Etzion on Thursday, before being shot and killed by security forces.

No Israeli troops were harmed in the thwarted attack, which was the fourth attempted terrorist stabbing in the West Bank within a week and a half. Around 200 Palestinians gathered at the scene of the incident and began rioting, throwing stones at the soldiers, who were forced to implement crowd control measures.

A Palestinian car-ramming terror attack wounded three Israeli soldiers near Hebron on Tuesday. A similar Palestinian car-ramming took place earlier this month in the same area as Thursday’s attempted stabbing, near Tekoa. The attacks come amid rising tensions in Jerusalem, where Muslims have rioted in the Old City over bolstered security measures implemented by Israel at the Temple Mount, following the deadly Arab terror attack near the holy site on July 14.

Earlier this week, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party called for a “day of rage” to take place in eastern Jerusalem and the disputed territories.

Since September 2015, Palestinian terrorists have killed more than 40 Israelis, two American tourists and a British exchange student in numerous stabbing, shooting and vehicular terror attacks.
