As increasing numbers of women enter the fields of science and engineering, Central High School is proud to be preparing the next generation. Last week, participants in the Central branch of the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) program visited a construction site on Manhattan’s Upper West Side to see construction in action. Forty-six students, along with faculty advisor Mrs. Marci Karoll and mentors Kelly Smolar (’03) and Roxana Kariyannis, donned bright yellow hard hats and orange vests as they toured the site from top to bottom. Members of the construction crew explained the process of construction, including the roles of engineers and architects. Students were excited to see firsthand how a building is created from the inside out.
