A special “Think Israel” conference organized by Nefesh B’Nefesh and The Jewish Agency for Israel, will take place at the UJA-Federation of New York in Manhattan on Sunday, October 21. The conference, which is geared for Jewish students and young professionals, will focus on careers and life in Israel, and will feature various workshops addressing jobs in Israel, higher education, building your community, social justice, Israel engagement, and more. The event will also include an Israel fair where people considering aliyah will be able to meet with potential employers as well as a special workshop for physicians.
Due to the success of similar initiatives in the past, there will also be a Tweetup focusing on using social media to bridge the connection between Israel and the Diaspora. The Tweetup, which allows people who generally connect through social media to come together to meet in person, will feature a lineup of popular Jewish Tweeters, including Lisa Alcalay Klug, award-winning journalist, author of Cool Jew and Hot Mamalah; Bethany Shondark, social media associate at Commentary Magazine; Josh Yuter, rabbi of the Stanton St. Shul, Top 10 Jewish influencer and award winning blogger; Seth Mandel, assistant editor at Commentary Magazine; and Laura Ben-David, social media coordinator of Nefesh B’Nefesh. The theme of the Tweetup is “Confronting the Challenges of Online Israel Advocacy,” allowing passionate Israel supporters the opportunity to effectively advocate for Israel using social media, in addition to bringing those together in real life who already do.
The “Think Israel” conference (www.nbn.org.il/thinkisrael), which is expected to draw hundreds of attendees, will incorporate various breakout sessions covering a wide array of aliyah and Israel-related topics, including breaking into the Israeli job market, higher education and social action in Israel, army service in Israel, exploring The Jewish Agency’s Masa programs, and a special presentation by Nefesh B’Nefesh co-founder and executive director Yehoshua Fass.
A special webinar will be broadcast from the event focusing on Nefesh B’Nefesh’s Go North program as part of the Negev & Galil Development Project that the organization conducts in cooperation with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL) to encourage olim to move to Israel’s periphery.
Participants at the event will also enter a raffle to win two free tickets to Israel. The event can be followed on Twitter at #thinkIsrael.
