Jeff Toback, candidate for NYS Assembly, AD #20, is proud to announce a series of five endorsements that he has received over the past several weeks as the September 13 Democratic primary nears. These endorsements reflect the wide gamut of governmental initiatives which Toback has tackled.

As a five-term county legislator, Toback has a proven record for advancing public-safety initiatives and earned a reputation for fighting the good fight for needed change, despite how politically popular it was. That’s reflected in the succession of endorsements he received from the Nassau County PBA, the Nassau County Superior Officers Association, and the Nassau County Correction Officers Benevolent Association.

“Public safety is government’s most important priority,” stressed Toback. “Keeping our neighborhoods safe by ensuring our police, firefighters, first responders, and emergency personnel have the resources, equipment, and respect they need to do their job effectively is on my agenda,” he added.

Toback’s main concerns in Albany include enacting real ethics reforms that restore the people’s trust in government, restructuring our school systems to make them ready to tackle the complex issues of the 21st century, amending the penal laws to help get heroin dealers off the street, and protecting our quality of life.

With a critical and practical eye for necessary improvements in government and the legal system, Toback recently brought to light, in a letter to the editor, a serious threat to the safety of children as a result of a twice-convicted sex offender who was not incarcerated by a judge due to a concern for cost to the county. Toback’s outrage caught the attention and earned the endorsement of the Fighting for Children PAC and its founder Gary Greenberg. “We are always seeking out strong political allies like Jeff Toback who are committed to reforming the state’s statute of limitations when it comes to child sex abuse to better protect the children of New York,” said Gary Greenberg, founder of Fighting for Children.

On the quality-of-life front, Toback looks forward to cleaning up the Western Bays and making New York State greener. The New York League of Conservation Voters has endorsed Toback in his bid for Assembly, recognizing Jeff’s impressive track record during his tenure in the Nassau County Legislature. He cosponsored the Open Space Preservation Act, which created perpetual preserves that could never be sold, required a supermajority for any sale of open space, and created an Open Space Fund. The legislation also increased emission controls targeted at diesel power plants and passed clean-energy requirements for Nassau County vehicles. It also included smart growth initiatives including LEED certification for new construction of county buildings.

In addition, Toback cosponsored legislation that created the 2004 and 2006 Environmental Bond Act referenda, both of which passed by overwhelming majorities. He also helped secure over $150 million for open space preservation and protection, water resource protection, park improvements, and brownfield restoration. v
