A wannabe terrorist from Western Pennsylvania who used the Internet to urge jihadists to “write their legacy in blood” by killing Jews, cops and other innocent people at daycare centers and police stations won’t be inciting anyone to violence anytime soon after receiving a lengthy prison term earlier this week, the New York Daily News reports.

Emerson Winfield Begolly, who posted terroristic rants to a Jihadist forum under the name “Abu Nancy” starting in 2008, received more than eight years in prison on Tuesday.

Begolly, 24,  who was described as a social outcast and has struggled with Asperger’s syndrome, also posted photos and videos to the forum.  In one he is seen dressed in camouflage as he holds a grenade. A YouTube video shows Begolly walking through rural fields and a forest, shooting a semi-automatic rifle at assorted targets.

“This is a guy who definitely had the potential to hurt people,” FBI Special Agent Blake McGuire, who led part of the investigation from the bureau’s Pittsburgh office, said in a statement. “He was a disaffected U.S. citizen who was susceptible to the message of violent extremism, and he became self-radicalized on the Internet. That type of offender—the so-called lone wolf—is extremely dangerous, because they can be difficult to discover before they resort to violence.”

Begolly, who tried to pull a weapon on agents when he was arrested and also bit one on the finger, pleaded guilty to the charges in August 2011 of soliciting others to engage in acts of terrorism within the United States and using a firearm in an assault on FBI agents.

“I’d like to sincerely apologize for the things that I said on the computer and for biting the policeman in the scuffle,” Begolly said in court, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I shamed my family.

“I don’t want to go back to any of this kind of stuff,” he added. “I want to be able to go walking again in the park, go fishing again on the river.”

“When you combine troubling rhetoric that escalates with weapons, it poses a tremendous threat to public safety,” McGuire, the FBI agent, said. “Fortunately, we headed off any potential danger before it happened.”
