Constant missile attacks aimed at southern Israel by Gaza terrorists and the counter terrorism Operation Pillar of Defense launched in response could delay Israel’s upcoming national elections, the government said Sunday.
Internal elections in the leading Likud party, as well as in the Labor party, have been put on hold.
Many candidates have also voluntarily stopped their campaigns due to the current security situation.
Depending on whether a ceasefire is declared, or the current military operation is expanded and advanced, the government may decide to convene a Knesset session to determine whether or not to postpone the elections.
However, no consensus has yet been reached.
